Census Debate Adds Complexity to Delimitation Plan

A key point of disagreement is the use of the 2011 Census for delimitation instead of waiting for updated population data. Sonia Gandhi has criticized this decision, calling it a deviation from established democratic practices.

She argued that relying on outdated data could lead to inaccurate representation and undermine the credibility of the electoral process. The government, however, insists that waiting for new census data would delay reforms beyond 2029.

This disagreement has further deepened mistrust between the ruling party and the Opposition.
