SC Flags Policy Gaps, Orders Pension for Women SSC Officers

Highlighting issues in policy implementation, the Supreme Court of India has ruled in favor of women Short Service Commission officers, granting them pension benefits despite not meeting the standard 20-year service requirement.

The case involved officers from the Indian Air Force and other services who were considered for Permanent Commission but were not selected under revised policies introduced in 2019. The court noted that these changes were applied without providing a fair transition period.

In its judgment, the court stated that officers affected by the 2019–2021 selection process will be deemed to have completed 20 years of service for pension purposes. This benefit will also apply to those who were declared ineligible during the same period.

While pension benefits will be granted from November 1, 2025, the court made it clear that no arrears of pay would be included. The ruling also opens the possibility for serving officers to receive Permanent Commission, subject to eligibility conditions.
